oh hi!
I’m Yvonne! nice to meet you : )
Who is Yvonne? What is Yvonne?
- a third year electrical engineer studying at McMaster University.
- aspiring creative, I aspire to tinker..
- avid artist!
- avid musician!
- just someone trying to survive through my degree!

what else? what else?
lots of labs..
>> These are collections of lab material I had opportunities to work with within courses including 2CJ4 (circuits & systems), 2EI4 (electronic devices & circuits), and 2DI4 (logic design).
I love musicals <3
>> My biggest highlight in undergrad so far is the McMaster Engineering Musical, of which I’m a band member!
(is there really a musical… IN ENG?! – The Odyssey, 2024)
>> So far I’ve been in two; The Odyssey in 2025, and in The Greater Than Gatsby in 2026. The theater kid in me has never been happier to continue pursuing musicals within my degree. <3

>> Something I found even more valuable is the connection I found with these people.. they’re all so talented??? And recognized???? AND MUSICALLY INCLINED???????? The Engineering program HAS THESE KIND OF PEOPLE AND THEY’VE ALL CONGREGATED HERE????????
>> I was inspired beyond recognition.
I love drawing
>> I’ve been drawing since I was small! And when I got my first digital tablet in 2020, I drew even more!!

my art from 2021 all the way to 2026! (I’m being very vulnerable here…)
>> Ever since starting university though, I didn’t draw as often as I liked.. so I joined a Graphics team on McMaster Design League to keep pursuing it in a way that mattered!
(so I could justify myself indulging teehee)
>> but just like every time, I found MORE than an design team; I FOUND FRIENDS!! IN THE SAME DEGREE!! Who ALL LOVE ART JUST LIKE MEEEE!!! IN THE HARDEST YEAR OF MY LIFE/DEGREE!! god knows what would’ve happened if I didn’t have this community.
I would gladly do an overnight shift and wake up at 6 am all over again for this team. (16 hour shifts ain’t got nothing on me)

again if you wanna see more corny, professional side of me, I also made a LinkedIn post about this
>> so now.. with my newfound (but never really newfound) love for this team, I’ve decided to be their lead for 2026-2027! I hope to make as much of an impact on the team as much as they have for me.
I volunteer! (not as tribute)
>> Believe it or not, I actually came to like this lovely institute. So much so that I volunteered for the Faculty of Engineering since May 2025!

>> this consists of the many open houses I’ve assisted to, such as the iconic May@MAC (which happens in, shocker, May), Fall Open Houses (pictured on the right), and even a provincial event; the Ontario University Fair in Toronto!
>> as an ambassador, I get to practice my yapping into professional yapping! I used this time to tell my stories and experiences as engineering undergrad to all who came to our booth, which was manned by the Engineers, the CompScis, the BTechs, and the iBiomeds.
>> if you would like to see more of my professional side, I made a LinkedIn post on this!

>> But even with the rush hours and the late shifts, I still consistently show up for these events. I even got a sparkly new certificate for my hourly dedication (I love shiny things HAHAH). But what makes it fulfilling for me is the amount of people I can reach and how many people I can help; at the end of the day, that’s all that matters.
eesh lookit me getting sappy eugrh gross yucky
>> Soooooo in my second year, I took it upon myself to contribute even more! I went to another open house in winter, representing the Electrical and Computer Engineering stream!!

>> and it was… a completely different ballfield. Instead of just insights, we now presented opportunities in our stream, including specific coursework and career prospects. And honestly, I was definitely underqualified for the job in my first time (I could not answer many questions…), but now as a third year, I aim to try again next year!!
>> please please please allow me to glaze for a moment…. the girl to my right has me in complete awe. She is actually the president of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Society this year, and boothing with her was so inspiring. She just knew everything and kept calm all the time. I hope to be like her one day.
but…why is Yvonne?
ok, so after all that…. why is Yvonne doing this? Why bother making a website when she has a Notion portfolio collecting dust?
well.
(prepare yourself. she’s about to throw the largest pity party you’ve ever seen)
Once I started university, I had the largest reality check. Everything I do was for my grades; I need to 12 this, I need ace that.. but imagine my despair when I started to realize that that’s not jobs want anymore.
For the longest time, I felt like I needed to be good. Not the best, but good. Above average. Someone who had their life together, and was on the path to victory.
that’s simply not the case!
University wasn’t about being better. Because “better” is no longer an academic, black and white term to describe greatness. Better doesn’t represent the people who are successful.
and to be successful, one must stray from home.
I’ve seen so many people thrive and grow from this degree, even when we were fighting for our lives every other week.
I’ve seen so many people make the most of their studies, and made an example for others to show how amazing electrical engineering can be (Sage Cadence, Covacut, Atarabyte, the list goes on).
I want to be like that. But I’m completely serious when I say this;
I’m very, very much average in my skills right now.
So I made this website to show that. I want people to know what I found to get out of my comfort zone. I want to them to see stu(dying) and grit in its raw, unedited form. Because I know success doesn’t come from being “better”. It comes from discipline (eek), perseverance, and a passion to create.
and if that’s what it takes, then I’ll try my best to do it. And I hope you’ll come along .u.
